AND n 1972, with the explosion of the opening of the Trans-Amazonian highway, the Mission Board of the Church of God in the United States decided to send a group of missionaries to the Amazon region.
_cc781905-5cde-3194 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ In May 1973, the year of the 50th anniversary of the Church of God in Brazil, land was purchased in Itaituba with the aim of planting the First Church in the Amazon, the first of course, because the vision was that the expansion of the gospel in northern Brazil would be persistent and progressive.
_cc781905-5cde-3194 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_When missionaries Mauricio Caldwell and Donald Johnson arrived in the Amazon, they flew over the Trans-Amazonian Highway with the objective of studying the possibility of starting a church work in the region and decided to settle in Itaituba._cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
_cc781905-5cde-3194 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ At that time, Itaituba was the support point for several mines around it, where gold is extracted and because of that the high cost of living, prostitution and the abandonment of children were very present in society.
Em setembro de 1973 A Church of God installs its first missionary couple. William (known in Brazil as Guilherme) and Betty to Mottinger and their son Joel. They left Campinas, where they studied Portuguese, towards the new mission field. They spent the month of October in the city of Belém, and continued their journey on November 6th. _cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58cde_ _cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58cde9 _cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58cde9 -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ They reached the Transamazônica road on the 8th, arriving in Itaituba on the 11th. electricity only a few hours a day and major purchases could only be made in Santarém.
A partir deste marco sua ação expands gradually and in April 1974 the first service was held on the premises of Mr. Raimundo Silva and Mrs. Paixão Borges Martins, located on the Trans-Amazonian Highway, Km 35. In this cult, Mrs. passion or“Aunt Passion”, as I am affectionately known, accepts Christ, becoming the first person to be a member of the church of God in the North Region.

Neste mesmo ano foi realizado o first service in the city of Itaituba with the presence of Pastors Edgar Henke, Pastor Mário Hort and Imão Geraldo Künast and missionaries Donald Johnson and Mauricio Caldwell. The work began at the municipality's headquarters with films and home services. The services were also held in the garage of the Mottinger family's house and at the same time, a precious fruit for the glory of God, little Solevânia, with about 6 years of age, stood out. He grew up standing out for his determination and witness, both in the family and in school and church.
Construction of the First Temple
Ainda em 1974 iniciou- the construction of the first temple with the help of a group from the United States together with the Seminary and brothers from the South who were also present in the first construction
The Arrival of the Greiner Couple
Em 09 de fevereiro de 1975, in the courtyard of the Instituto Teológico Boa Terra, the newly formed couple Oreste and Marlene Greiner were consecrated for their first ministry together with Agenor Blanck. The three were then brought by Pr. Edgar Henke to Itaituba to join the work in the Amazon region, together with the Mottinger family. The change of the three beginners to the ministry took place inside a Jeep, starting the trip on the 10th and arriving in Itaituba on the 15th. After accommodating the brothers, Pr. Edgar returns to the South. Everything was new, different and distant.

From that moment on, the work of the Church gained strength through the conversion of several families, Martins Family, Ferreira Family, Bonfim Family, Araújo Family, Feitosa Family, Ferreira Souza Family (Brother Paquinha), Morais Araújo Family, Conceição Family, Machado Family and Melo family which became the foundation of the Church of God in Itaituba.
De algumas dessas famílias, ainda we have the privilege of having among us their matriarchs (sister passion, sister Rita, sister Elza, strong women, warriors who managed with their perseverance to take the gospel to their children. Others, however, who are no less persevering and warriors of the gospel , left their spiritual heritage, as a sweet memory, for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; new generations, who are the seeds of a new era for the Church of God in Itaituba.
Em 1975, temos então , the inauguration service of the first church of the Church of God in Brazil in Itaituba located on Avenida Getúlio Vargas, in front of the current Porto da Balsa, at the top of the Rural House.
The Henke Family and Social Work
Em 1979 a família Greiner returned to southern Brazil and arrived in Itaituba the Henke family, which started the social work in the municipality. The work grew a lot with the help of the missionaries: Ilani Dunke, Reni Zatta, Marinha Franke, Haide kimmech, Rose and Ingrid Henings, Irene Hinz, Lili Benke, Marli Scheffelmaier. With social work in full swing, the Church of God becomes more and more known, many people were converted and joined the work.
Com o passar dos anos , and with the growing need to care for many children and families in situations of social vulnerability, the Social Works of the Church “A Mão Cooperadora”, opens its first semi-boarding school located on 11th street in the Bela Vista neighborhood, where they were also held the first services in that neighborhood and later he moved to 23rd street and started to carry out the Church services in the cafeteria of the Semi-boarding school.
Construction of the Second Temple
Com a crescente demanda de faithful, the Greiner family returns to Itaituba to once again support the work of the church and with that, the need for a new place for the realization of the services arises, that was how in 1984 the construction of the Temple began on 23rd street (current Central Temple). That same year, with the acquisition of the Maloquinha farm, social work was also started in that locality aimed at serving young people and adolescents and rural communities, as well as carrying out camps and meetings , baptisms, and various other activities for the Church. With the work expanding, the need arises for new leaders to take on new fields. As a result of their work, many young people felt the Call of God and the desire to prepare themselves for the Work of the Lord, and for lack of a preparatory school for leaders, they moved to the south of the country to study at the Theological Institute Boa Terra-ITB, Church of God seminary, becoming new pastors and missionaries.
_cc781905-5cde-3194-bbbad5cf-136 The Church of God grew even more in the Amazon. parallel to this, the need to prepare new leaders was increasing. However, the difficulty of moving south to the seminary was a difficult obstacle for those who felt the desire to prepare themselves for the Work of the Lord. It was then that God planted in the hearts of pastors the dream of a school for the formation of leaders within the community itself. With time, and the growth and maturation of this vision, God grants the Church the opportunity to implement an extension of the Southern Seminary in the Amazon Region. Thus, the ITBT-Amazônia (Boa Terra Amazônia Theological Institute) was born, aiming at the formation of new pastors and leaders to assume the work fronts distributed by the various locations.
Todo este trabalho, e everything that the Church of God is today in the Amazon region is due to the dedication and willingness of the pioneers reported here and ESPECIALLY, to two great Families:Henke familyin the person of Prof. Edgar Henke (In Memoriam) andGreiner familyin the person of Prof. Oreste Greiner, who tirelessly spared no effort so that the Gospel could be spread and reach the most diverse places in the country. These men, in addition to being fishermen of Souls, became trainers of many other Leaders and FATHERS of a Great Multitude.

Central Temple - New Time
For over 40 years working in Itaituba with various ministries and Social Work, the Church of God in Brazil has created a very strong bond with the Itaitubense community and the entire region.
Em 2011 a Igreja Central emancipates itself, thus becoming calledCHURCH OF GOD IN THE AMAZON. In the same year she begins a new time in her history by transacting to Church in Cell or Vision of the MDA-model of apostolic discipleship.
_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5 from 58dcf-136 emergence Church of God and with that the rescue of its origins, with the return of the cults in the homes through Work in Cells.
Conta com 30 células, 7 setores e uma frequência em torno de 900 people congregating in cells, also today the church celebrates two services on Sunday being the first ofEBD-Sunday Bible Schooland the second at 19:30“Celebration Service”, in addition to various programs throughout the week. Currently, within the MDA Vision, the Church of God in the Amazon, Templo Central, grew by financially assisting other churches/congregations, inside and outside the state. In evangelism, the church has progressed every day getting closer and closer to people who are lost.
Na missão de Assistência Social local , the church has also evolved by contributing financial aid for the construction of houses, food baskets, social rent, tickets for members who need treatment away from home and medical exams and consultations.
A visão do MDA proporcionou um extraordinary growth in a short time of implantation in the Church of God in the Amazon within the municipality of Itaituba, being necessary to think about the expansion of the temple that was used until then.
In 2019, under the leadership ofPr. Antônio Carlos Roberto, (Pr. Genésio),the Project for a new Temple of the Central Church began, which is being built with a modern architecture guaranteeing enough space to hold 1400 people.
Throughout all these years of activity of the Church of God in the Amazon, the Central Temple has become the starting point for the expansion of work in the municipality of Itaituba and other communities along the Trans-Amazonian Highway, as well as to other surrounding municipalities. The cradle of formation of new leaders and pastors who are assuming the countless fronts where the church of God in the Amazon is present.
