CHURCH OF GOD IN BRAZIL
Church Reform Movement God's
History
[*]

1.Your Beginning
O movimento conhecido como Igreja of God, which today works in about 100 countries, is a movement in favor of the full truth of the Holy Scriptures and the unity of Christianity. The Church of God began around 1880 in the USA, in reaction to many divisions and strife among denominational groups that lived in fierce rivalries and heretical preaching, deviating from the basic concept of the Bible .
The pioneers, at first, did not intend to start a new denomination, but to rediscover dynamism and genuinism unity of God's people. With a theology totally based on the Word of God, they started to use the name ofGod Church, because it is a biblical name (Acts 20.28), to better represent the unity of the Christian family.
“Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which he purchased with his own blood.”
Acts: 20:28
_cc781905-5cde-3194-bad5cf58d_ In their special sermons58d_ they emphasized:
1.1 Back to the Bible(Back to the Bible); The pioneers emphasized biblical doctrine and Christ's plan of salvation (John 5:39).
1.2 Christian Unity(Christian Unity); They also placed great emphasis on the fact that every regenerate person is my brother (John 17:21, Eph 4:1-6). This does not mean that we will agree on every detail. Jesus Christ did not have complete unity in the group of disciples, and among the leaders of the early church there was also no unanimity at all, but even so, the Bible affirms the unity of the church (Phil 2.5; Is 11.6-9).
1.3 Sanctification, or Holiness(Sanctification or Holiness); The Bible says, “May the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless and harmless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). When the pioneers sang the hymn “perfect and holy union brings us the love of Christ”, by DS Warner, they affirmed that “full sanctification unites the people of God”.

At the time there was widespread discontent among evangelicals of different denominations. Due to theological disharmony and lack of practical Christianity, leaders sought to rediscover the essence of theology and the true Church according to Holy Scripture. As the pioneers placed a high emphasis on returning to the Bible and full sanctification, most notably Daniel Sidney Warner, many other leaders were also attracted to these concepts.
_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136The Church of God, from its beginning, through the preaching and dissemination of its literature, had a great acceptance and a rapid growth in the USA and different countries of the world. In the course of its history, since the year 1880, it has spread to all continents. In the 1930s, it was the fastest growing evangelical movement. Currently, the Church of God works in congregational, evangelistic, missionary, social and educational work through biblical institutes, seminaries, universities, schools, day care centers, orphanages, asylums, agricultural centers, hospitals, radio and television programs, production of Christian literature, music as well as on the Internet.

His father ran a tavern at the time of his birth and was later known to drink, but his mother, ofPennsylvania Dutch, is recorded by Warner as being more virtuous. He was the fifth of six children. His speaking skills were noticed even in his youth, when he would occasionally give political speeches in his home area. During theAmerican Civil War, Warner offered to serve as a Union soldier to replace his brother, Joseph Warner, who had been drafted as Joseph had a family.

2.Your Start in Brazil
Contexto histórico da Igreja de God in Brazil has an intimate and profound relationship with European immigration, especially Germanic immigration in southern Brazil (São Francisco, Nova Esperança, D. Emma – SC) and later received broad support from the Church of God in the USA
Em dezembro de 1922 chegaram to Brazil, those who today are recognized as pioneers of the Church of God in Brazil. At Easter 1923, the first official service of the Church of God in Brazil was celebrated in Nova Esperança, Dona Emma - SC, led by the pioneerAdolfo Weidmann. On the occasion, he quoted the texts of 1 Peter 1.3 and Romans 1.16, emphasizing the“living hope we have in Jesus Christ”, is that "we must not be ashamed of the gospel”, which he also put into practice on his missionary journeys. In the same year the Church of God began in Rio das Antas - SC, under the direction of the pioneerJulius Dräger. In this place, later great congresses and seminars called “Bible School” were held, and the first conference was held on Pentecost in 1929, in Nova Esperança.
Na década de 30 o pioneer Adolfo Weidmann went to the State of São Paulo where he established contacts with people who already knew the Church of God. Meetings and services began there, where many decided for Christ. During this period, the Meier missionaries from the USA also arrived to provide support. Soon after, the work expanded to the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná.
Na década de 50, a Bible School (Bible Institute) was started in Rio das Antas, with a two-year course, under the leadership of the Weissburger brothers. At the same time, a printing office (Gráfica Luz) was installed to print the first leaflets of the Church of God in Brazil. In the 60's, the headquarters of the national work was transferred to Curitiba - PR, where the national conventions started to be officially held. The Malzon brothers, with the support of then President Gerhard Kühnast, started the Biblical Institute of the Church of God in Curitiba.
In the 1970s, under the leadership of the couples Nelson and Adelheid Junges, Maurício and Dondeena Caldwell and Edgar and Cilli Henke, the Theological Institute “Boa Terra” was established. In the same period, several important events and departments began, such as: the National Youth Meeting, the Women's Missionary Society, the Social and Educational Works of the Church of God in Brazil and the radio program "Hora da Irmandade Cristã", administered by pastors Meier, Henke , Junges and Hort. The church also expanded to the North of Brazil, and in the 1980s, to the Northeast and Midwest.
Hoje a Igreja de Deus works in the five regions of Brazil, through its seven departments: Administrative, Ministerial, Educational, Evangelism and Missions, Communication, Occasional Activities and Social Assistance.
